Arches by Waytoplay Toys

One of the co-founders of WasteBase, Ramon de Iongh, was heavily involved in the development of Arches, a new toy by Waytoplay Toys. The new product consists of just one shape that comes in three beautiful colors; dark green, mint grey and vibrant yellow. It’s a great addition to the existing products of Waytoplay.

Introduction

Arches can be clicked together on different ways to create sculptures, bridges, tunnels, abstract figures, race tracks and much more. Allowing children to explore their imagination in countless ways. Using recycled material was one of the key components of making this a unique toy, and after overcoming many challenges, they reached the milestone of making Arches from 100% recycled ABS, sourced in the Netherlands!

The creation

Arches are made in Bosnia and Herzegovina through injection moulding, a process where molten plastic is heated and pressed into a mold consisting of four cavities. The creation of four Arches takes around 45 seconds from mold closing, injecting the material, cooling the parts down, and ejecting the parts. For the first run, 108.000 Arches will be made and sold worldwide.

The packaging

It starts with a bold first impression: the  full-color sleeve, proudly marked with the Lifestyle MILK 2025 Design Award sticker! Slide off the sleeve to reveal a sleek  cardboard box printed with an x-ray version  of the iconic Arches design. Mysterious. Intriguing. Kids can’t wait to peek inside. Lift the lid to reveal 18 Arches neatly  arranged in a beautiful display tray. The middle set features two of these trays  and the biggest set three. The vibrant yellow accents shining in their  own special spotlight, followed by Dark  Green and Mint Grey. Unboxing has never  felt so satisfying!

Awards

As a cherry on top, Arches won the MiLK Design Award Lifestyle 2025 even before its launch! And the project is currently still in the running for the Junior Design Awards 2025 and the Isola Design Awards 2025!
