The High Profile lighting collection is a creation of Dutch design company MVRDV, which repurposed scrap aluminium profiles leftover from the manufacturing process of Delta Light’s recessed lights. Delta Light collaborated with MVRDV to repurpose the waste material and highlight its beauty in a design that showcases a typically concealed feature.
The High Profile lamps are made by fusing aluminium scraps to create a sculptural lampshade, available in cube-shaped pendants, floor lamps, and wall sconces. MVRDV’s design “looks closely at the manufacturing process, discovering not only chance but also beauty in components that are typically discarded as waste,” said Peter Ameloot, managing director of Delta Light. The lamps are available in various colours and reduce environmental impact since the aluminium parts do not need to be newly manufactured or transported. MVRDV invites consumers to appreciate the beauty of everyday materials and see opportunity in what is usually ignored.
High Profile is available as a freestanding floor lamp and comes in a variety of bright colours that soften its industrial appearance. The project was shortlisted in the lighting design category of Dezeen Awards 2022, alongside other innovative designs such as a lamp made from a split piece of wood and a glass pendant light that celebrates Mexican craftsmanship.
