Have you ever stacked bricks on holiday? Remember the excitement, the frustration, the calm. But also the feeling of victory, when the tower stays standing and you have defeated gravity. From this feeling came ROCKEEES, a clever little block with 17 different sides, each with its own point of balance. With ROCKEEES, you can create your own tower wherever and whenever you want, but be careful, because gravity can fool you at any moment!
ROCKEEES was designed in the Netherlands by Ramon de Iongh for design agency Apollo-11 and is produced completely circularly in cooperation with recycler Coolrec. They collect discarded refrigerators from all over Europe, which are recycled into high-quality raw materials. With the new balance game ROCKEEES, this gives the fridge a ‘cool’ second life.
The interesting part of this process is that Coolrec controls the whole chain, from fridge to Coolstar pellet. “European legislation for use in children’s toys is very strict, the fact that Coolstar can be used for this indicates that the quality is very high.” Says Ramon Bongers, Manager Plastics at Coolrec. “Our ultimate goal with this is to also use it to make new parts for electronics such as refrigerators. So reuse from refrigerator to refrigerator, then we are truly circular.”
